Division Announcements

We are excited to announce new appointments within the ID Division

Stephen Y. Liang, MD, MPHS, Associate Professor of Medicine, will become the Section Chief for Hospital Epidemiology and Antibiotic Stewardship. Dr. Liang’s primary research interests include trauma-related infections, orthopedic infections, device-associated infections, and management of infectious diseases and infection prevention in emergency care settings.

Abby Sung, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, will become the Medical Director of Infection Prevention for Washington University. Dr. Sung’s research/interest focuses on hospital epidemiology and infection prevention.

Erik R. Dubberke, MD, MSPH, Professor of Medicine will become the Director of Infectious Diseases Epidemiology Research. Dr. Dubberke specializes in clinical and translational infectious diseases, with a focus on transplant infectious diseases, hospital epidemiology, and Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI).

 Continuing Section leadership are:

Kevin Hsueh, MD, Associate Professor of Medicine, will continue to lead in IP as the Chief Hospital Epidemiologist and Medical Director of Infection Prevention at BJH. Dr. Hsueh specializes in Antimicrobial Stewardship and Infection Prevention, with special focus on practical design and implementation of healthcare quality and safety improvement interventions. He is clinical researcher in the WU Prevention Epicenters program, a research collaborative whose purpose is to conduct innovative research on preventing hospital acquired infections and multi-drug resistant organism development and transmission.

Sena Sayood, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, will continue to lead in ASP as the Medical Director for the BJH Antibiotic Stewardship Program. Dr. Sayood performs clinical research with a specific focus on antimicrobial stewardship and clinical decision support.
