Dr. Fraser, the Adolphus Busch Professor of Medicine, head of the Department of Medicine at Washington University and physician-in-chief at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, received the award March 17 during the Missouri State Medical Association’s annual conference in St. Louis.

The Citation of Merit — the school’s highest honor — is given to alumni who have performed outstanding work in their fields. An expert in infectious disease and antibiotic resistance, Fraser is well-noted for her work to prevent and control hospital-acquired infections, adverse events and medical errors. Her clinical
interests also include the care of underserved patients, particularly those with HIV/AIDS and acute and chronic infectious diseases.

Fraser received her medical degree from Missouri in 1983. She completed her residency and was chief resident at the University of Colorado before returning to Washington University and BJH for a fellowship in infectious diseases.
