Rupa Patel, MD, MPH, DTM&H, assistant professor of medicine, invited to speak and join technical discussions at the UNAIDS meeting March 7, 2018.

Dr. Patel will take part in a meeting entitled, “Working towards International Association of Providers of AIDS Care (IAPAC) Recommendations for the Introduction and Scale-Up of PrEP in Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Fast-Track Cities.” The meeting will take place on March 7, 2018 in Boston, MA, USA.

The meeting’s aim is to provide technical guidance for the accelerated integration and scale-up of PrEP within the context of urban AIDS responses. The target audience for the guidance is local health departments in UNAIDS Fast-Track Cities. The primary outcome of this stream of work is the development of a set of recommendations that will be utilized to provide technical assistance to local health departments on PrEP provision; inform advocacy efforts around policy and financing for PrEP introduction, scale-up, and monitoring; and propose strategies for PrEP demand creation and uptake in target populations worldwide.

Dr. Patel was invited to this session of 30 world-wide members to lend her expertise to the discussions based on her work in Missouri and Internationally.
