Sourav Bhattacharya received his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Physiology from the University of Calcutta, India, where he also completed his Ph.D. in 2013. He joined the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis in 2017. His research has focused on lung immunology, utilizing both experimental mouse models and human myeloid cells to explore the mechanisms that regulate immune homeostasis and drive inflammatory responses.
He is currently focused on understanding how host myeloid cells orchestrate lung inflammatory responses following pathogenic infections, such as those caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) or in response to inflammatory metabolites, and how these initial signals reshape cell phenotypes and transcriptome to influence subsequent inflammatory processes. He joined the Jen Philips Lab in June 2025.
