Elvin H. Geng, MD, MPH

Professor of Medicine

Elvin H. Geng, MD, MPH is Professor of Medicine in the Division of Infectious Diseases in the Department of Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis. He earned MD and MPH degrees from Columbia University and completed post-doctoral fellowship training at the Aaron Diamond AIDS Institute at Rockefeller University and at the University of California in San Francisco. 

Using the lens of implementation science, Dr. Geng conducts research to advance the use of evidence-based interventions in the public health response to HIV and non-communicable diseases.  Topically, he has focused on retention in HIV treatment, person-centered public health strategies, adaptive approaches to service delivery and practice facilitation.  He has employed a wide range of methods in this research including sequential and cluster level randomization, choice experiments, mixed methods, decision analysis and reviews.  To help advance the dissemination and use of research evidence, he has served on the World Health Organization’s HIV Guideline Development Group, the World Health Organization Guideline Review Committee, National Academies of Science commissions and is a frequent contributor to organization of scientific meetings.  Dr. Geng holds editorial roles at PLOS Medicine, the Journal of the International AIDS Society and Implementation Science Communications.  He helps advance implementation research as Director of the Center for Dissemination and Implementation at the Institute for Public Heath, for Washington University in St. Louis as well as the HIV response as Director of the NIAID funded Midwest Center for AIDS Research.
