New podcast showcases the people behind today’s virology headlines
As part of an effort to ‘humanize’ research, Larissa Thackray, PhD, associate professor of medicine, started a podcast called ‘Let’s Meet the Virologists’. Dr. Thackray talks with students, staff, postdocs and faculty from all over the country who are working to understand viruses and how they affect you. Dr. Thackray’s podcasts aim to illustrate the diversity of people doing virology with a current emphasis on the scientists studying SARS-CoV-2 and COVID-19.
Episode 3 features the work of Emma Winkler, a MSTP MD, PhD student at Washington University School of Medicine, who characterized several small animal models of SARS-CoV-2 pathogenesis as part of efforts to understand immune correlates of severe COVID-19 disease.
Episode 7 features the work of Ahmed Hassan, DVM, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University School of Medicine, who developed a single-dose intranasal chimpanzee-adenovirus based vaccine as part of efforts to identify new countermeasures for SARS-CoV-2.
Episode 8 features the work of Zhuoming Liu, PhD, a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University School of Medicine, who optimized a recombinant vesicular stomatitis virus expressing the attachment protein of SARS-CoV-2 as part of efforts to facilitate rapid and high throughput BSL-2 studies of antibody neutralization and antibody escape.
An additional 7 episodes are available on ‘Let’s Meet the Virologists’ at Google, Apple and Amazon music podcasts or at lmtv.podbean.com.
