ID Fellowship Program receives continued accreditation

WashU Medicine Division of Infectious Diseases co-chief Barbara Trautner, MD, PhD, discusses a patient's case with First Year Fellow Laveena John, MD, visiting medical student Hiyori Mori, medical student Elisa Carrillo, and senior clinical research coordinator Johanan Luna during ID rounds at Wohl Hospital on March 16, 2026.

The Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program at Washington University School of Medicine celebrates its continued accreditation status, effective January 23, 2026, by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The ACGME sets standards for effective educational and training programs, and monitors compliance with those standards.

Continued accreditation status after a decennial review indicates not only that WashU Medicine’s ID fellowship program meets standards related to educational quality, faculty oversight, trainee supervision, clinical learning environment, evaluation processes, and program outcomes — but also that the program provides high-quality sub-specialty training and effective oversight of fellows’ clinical and educational experiences.

At WashU Medicine, ID fellows are trained to be excellent clinicians and physician-scientists. They are prepared to respond to national and global challenges, such as emerging infectious diseases, rising antimicrobial resistance, and threats to public health and patient safety.

Thank you to ACGME for re-affirming the WashU Infectious Diseases Fellowship Program’s dedication to high standards in education, training and care.
