Marilia R. Pinzone, MD

Fourth Year Fellow

Marilia is currently a fourth-year fellow and recipient of the Dean’s Scholar Award. She finished medical school and residency training at the University of Catania in Italy before spending five years as a postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Pinzone’s interests are HIV, TB and viral infections in immunocompromised hosts. She hopes to pursue a career as a Physician-Scientist.

“I chose WUSM for fellowship training because of the exciting research and clinical opportunities and the welcoming attitude towards physicians that have trained in other countries. I am still waiting to find my favorite spot in St. Louis. Forest Park is a good starting place though!”

While in the O’Doherty Lab at UPenn, I utilized near-full-length sequencing to longitudinally study the reservoir of individuals with HIV infection.
