Matthew Kuhlmann is an assistant professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases. He also serves is the current president of the Infectious Diseases Society of St. Louis.
Dr. Kuhlmann specializes in translational sciences, with a special focus on global health. He studies the interaction between malnutrition and infectious diseases. We utilize an in vitro enteroid model to study the effects of malnourishment on the host response to enterotoxigenic E. coli. Complementing this work, we are assessing the same factors in a cohort of children from Cap-Haitien, Haiti, where we study the effects of specific nutrient deficits on diarrheal outcomes. He attends on the general infectious diseases service with fellows, residents, and students.
He currently mentors several undergraduate students, a gastroenterology fellow, and post-doctoral fellow in various capacities.
